OCULAR EMERGENCY APPOINTMENTS

We are registered to provide NHS ocular emergency appointments for sudden new problems with your eyes under the NI PEARS scheme. If eligible, an appointment will be offered within 48 hours to have the condition assessed and where appropriate treated through the NHS

NI PEARS is aimed at those patients with sudden onset of symptoms such as:

• Red eye
• Pain and/or discomfort in the eyes or around the eye
• New onset of flashes and/or floaters
• Sudden visual change in one or both eyes
• Suspected foreign body in the eye eg. metal, wood, small object stuck in the eye

The vast majority of these conditions will be able to be managed in practice with the appropriate treatment and/or medications. If further investigation is required we will either; arrange a review appointment, refer onwards to the relevant Hospital Eye Department or arrange an urgent appointment at Eye Casualty.
